    … and the women’s teams??

  • TH

Will the “First Four” games be held between the no. 16 seeds? Or is there another agenda: Have the games been set? – e.g. no. 10 seed from the West region v. the no. 14 seed from the East and no. 15 from the Midwest v. the no. 13 from the Southeast region?

Thank you for your prompt response.

    TH

  • TH

If you have a bracket with the seedings for the First Four games, would you please forward?

    Again, thank you.

  • admin

More info to follow when we update the bracket, however the First Four will:
    - Two first-round games to feature showdowns between teams playing for two of the No. 16 seeds.
    - Two first-round games to feature the last four of the 37 at-large teams selected to the tournament.

  • admin

    Hi TH,
    The First Four will have:
2 games pitting the bottom 4 auto qualifying 16 seeds against each other (think double “Play In” games from the past 9 years).
Then 2 games pitting similarly seeded teems. IE two 10s against each other and 2 11s against each other. These teams will be double listed on the 2011 NCAA Tournament Bracket by the NCAA and will be the last 4 at-large teams admitted to the NCAA Tournament. Many think that they will either be 10 or 11 seeds based on past years brackets, but it is really up to the selection committee to pick. The NCAA has gone on record for saying that they will not mix seeds in a single game (ie they won’t have an 8 against an 11), but there is no guarantee that each of these two games for the at-large teams will be of the same seed. Clear as mud now:) ? I love this time of year…my wife hates it since it means I own our TV though!

    Hi Swiss Vicki,
I’ll have the notional women’s bracket out tonight for you. Updated when announced as well.

iam in the 2014 class i will be going to IU,IUPUI SO BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR IAM 6’5 IAM KILL WHO EVERY COME MY WAY

  • Tim Lollar

How many total 1st round games will there be? 36? Will the bracket have a “play-in” game in each quadrant? Is there a picture of the bracket somewhere?

    Thanks!

    TL

  • Tim,
The First round is now considered to be the “First Four” consisting of 4 games. Two of these games will feature the last 4 of the “at large teams” and two will feature other teams similar to the previous year’s Play-in games. The now 2nd round (the old 1st round), will have 32 games.

  • Tim Lollar

Thanks- our pool is based on number of games played so this number is critical!

What region plays what region in the final 4?

  • david

Wow, asking for brackets on Feb 28th, uninformed folks, tourney don’t even start till the 15th of march.

  • chris

If UAB gets in over Alabama witch they did its a tragedy, Georgia also Alabama beat them twice, once in the sec tournement!

  • In this year’s tournament, the winner of the east region will take on the winner of the west region. Similarly, the winner of the Southwest region will take on the winner of the Southeast.

  • the first four, what happens to the four winners? where do they slot into the backets?

  • forget my blog regarding the first four, where they will be slotted. After reading and understanding your reponse to earlier blogs, I figured it out. Tka

  • Hi Cadresel,
The winners slot into their normal seeds into the bracket. For example, if they are 16 seeds, then the winner proceeds to play the 1 seed. Basically, instead of 1 play-in game featuring 2 16 seeds, we have 4 “Play-in” games featuring different seeds.

  • Darr247

Having to do a play-in and then getting a 10 or 12 seed is idiotic.

The play-ins should absolutely be among the bottom 8 teams, to decide each of the #16 seeds.

  • womens team

The womens bracket comes out tonight we see how much you really care about the girls.

    Fighting Irishhhhhhh!

  • Murray Neal

In the NCAA Women’s Bracket, it looks like they wanted to give Connecticut and Tennessee easy paths to the final 4 and make Baylor’s path tough. Also looks like they wanted to prevent two Big 12 teams from possibly reaching the final 4!!!

  • Kevin May

Would be nice to be able to print the Women’s Bracket as well.

  • Joe

WOW!!! They really wanted Big Ten teams in the tourney bad…..to have to go to 19-14 teams to allow them in is far reaching…..This tourney is not about fairness or even competition, it is about $$$$$$$$$$$. Mich. St., Ill., Penn. St., or even Tenn. do not belong in this tourney. The tourney people who choose, must have good money waiting for them. They need to set qualification standards such as 20+ wins and a winning (not .500)conference record. Those four teams would not qualify due to conference records. Also, look at how many teams would not make it because they have less than 20 wins. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  • Edward

This years tournament looks complicated. Can someone explain why the NCAA decided to screw-up what has worked in the past? I agree with Joe about the money aspect. I can see money and pro teams but it is a sad day when big money affects college sports hmmm when will money affect high school or even worse middle school players! When can we expect to see sponsorship of local pick-up games? Just some thoughts people.

  • connor

Ok joe..clearly your just upset I think because your team probly didn’t make it, if they took 20 and up teams they’d all be same conf. And there wouldn’t be enough teams and there’s no money involved your just one of those dumb fans upset over somthing stupid and is blaming the guys who are smart enough to make the system, id love to see you try kid,

  • Brandi

Hey everyone..can you help me out and explain to me why two 12 seed teams are playing each other? I mean..why aren’t they playing lower seed teams? I’m confused!!!

  • Sue

Boy Connor you are either naive or out of touch with reality! The last estimate I heard was that getting a bid to the NCAA Tournament equals at least one million dollars for the school and every win after that equals another million dollars due to money from television coverage. So, for schools who are in conferences with revenue sharing agreements like the ACC, when Duke wins the National Championship, that means money even for the Team that finished 12th in the conference. Sadly, money is a huge factor for the people who choose the Teams but they’d never admit it!

  • C West

Brandi, it’s ’cause the tournament officials are complete morons. Not really prob but it’s stupid. Clemson doesn’t have an equal chance in their 2nd game after travel and one day. Ugh! A month ago I thought the longhorns had a great shot at the championship game. Now I won’t be surprised if they don’t make 16. They could turn it around. Played hard against Kansas but only for last 20 min. Whenever they exit free throws will have played a part if not the reason for losing. Oh well. Young team.

  • Rich

The PREJUCICE for certain teams is still alive with the selection of 1 & 2 round sites. Who tough will it be for DUKE to travel to Charlotte? The stupidly of the organizer is well displayed when WASHINGTON DC is classified as a first round site for WEST bracket teams. WASHINGTON has to travel 3000 miles where DUKE has to travel 300 miles. No wonder they have won so many championships. And then there is OHIO STATE. Playing in CHICAGE. The committee needs to look at a map of AMERICA and see where the cities are really located. WEST IS WEST AND EAST IS EAST. NO TEAM SHOULD PLAY CLOSER THAN 500 MILES FROM ITS HOME SITE. ALL SHOULD TRAVEL. THAT WAY THE REAL MENTAL AND PHYSICAL SKILLS WILL COME THROUGH. Stop pampering the privileged few. MAKE THIS A REAL TOURNAMENT AND BRING EQUALITY BACK.

  • nathan

You guys are crazy, we all know duke is gonna win it all1

  • [...] new challenge. The four number one teams this year are Pittsburg, Duke, Kansas, and Ohio State (http://www.ncaatournamentbracket.org/2010/03/2011-ncaa-tournament-schedule-and-bracket/) Pittsburg has the easiest bracket this year, so they should get into the final four with ease, as [...]

    Thamk you for your advice!

  • A;C;E;C

Thank you for your updates! They were helpful for filling out our brackets!!!

Part of the privilege of being a number 1 seed in the tournament is the “privilege” of playing close to home at the beginning of the tournament. Now, whether you think that is “fair” or not is up to you; however, a suggestion might be that if you do not think that it is fair you might could take it up with your favorite team and ask them to play harder next year so they could get a number 1 seed so you would not have a reason to grumble and gripe. Also, there is also a second solution; you could take it up with the NCAA. You might even start a petition about the unfairness of it all. How that your team did not play as well as the number 1 seeds that particular year, but that you feel they should be afforded all of the same benefits and should not have to work any harder to earn a NCAA championship; their strength of schedule…well it was not so great either…they did not play and beat any top ranked teams during the regular season and that while their conference schedule was just barely over .500…

Hmmm…yes…I think you should totally go with that and that will win over everyone’s support in your favor. Teams like Duke, Carolina, Ohio State, Pitt, Michigan State, Texas, Oklahoma…just to name a few programs over the last few years who have earned number 1 seeds…have done just that EARNED THEM! No one handed them a number 1 seed on a platter just because of what school they were and if they happened to win the NCAA Championship…they EARNED that too! They earned those things with quality programs and a lot of hard work and determination…and when they lost, it was heartbreaking and they went back home with a lesson learned and they applied it and worked even harder the next year. So, please quit griping about any team getting some kind of advantage. ANY TEAM CAN BEAT ANY OTHER TEAM ON ANY GIVEN DAY…HOME OR NOT!!!!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF THE TEAMS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT THIS YEAR FOR THE LOVE OF THE SPORT! MAY THE BEST TEAM TRULY WIN!

  • Brandon

    Darr247 & Joe,

You know nothing of what you speak. Try educating yourself on the topics you are writing about before you open your mouth,

  • poop

    hey guys nc rules alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • Terry

Well we are down to the final 4 and where are the #1 seeds ????? All gone… I am a big KY fan BUT I love Virginia Commonwealth and hope they do well. Probably the best 5 game ever played in the NCAA Tournament (considering their low weed)… This has been a great tournament…the four #1 seeds flopped and many underdogs won….that is great for the fans…
